Jenna will soon be Queen and Beetle is now Chief Hermetic Scribe. Septimus, however, must rid the Castle of the Darke Domaine by destroying the Two-Faced Ring. His skills in both Magyk and Physik will be tested, as will his loyalties.

From Booklist
The Two-Faced Ring imprisons powerful Darke warrior wizards and can only be destroyed by burning in the great alchemical Fyre, a fire forbidden for hundreds of years because it nearly destroyed the castle and all in it. Chief Alchemist Marcellus Pye secretly reignites the Fyre in preparation for destroying the ring, but the two wizards have escaped their prison, the ring has gone missing, and Princess Jenna and her kingdom are again in great danger from the Darke Domaine. Sage is a master of her created world, paying devoted attention to the smallest detail; the world and the characters in it are as vivid and engaging in this final installment as they have been throughout the Septimus Heap series. Multiple plotlines are nimbly plaited, characters from throughout the series are integrated seamlessly, and the ending is as satisfying as a warm sweater. There is even a thread spun out from an incidental character, tying this set to a forthcoming series called TodHunter Moon, something Heap fans—new and old—will anticipate with delight. Grades 5-8. --Cindy Welch

Excellent wrap up, with enough twists to keep one reading
By Sharon Lynch
I have enjoyed all of the Magyk books, but this one may be my favorite. It incorporates most (if not all) of the characters, including a few minor characters that I'd almost forgotten. There were enough "whoa, I did NOT see that coming" moments to keep me reading well into the late night. The book can be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading all seven books; they are well worth the read, whether you are a child or an adult.

Almost.... but
By Anonomys
A very fitting end to the series, and was beautifully wrapped. It managed to incorporate all the characters of the past without seeming thrown together. Their is good balance of final dangerous adventure and new beginnings. However having just finished the book, I can't help but feel a little hollow. Disappointed is not the word, but the ending seems somewhat shallow, and I did not get that satisfied(somewhat sad) feeling you get when you've finally finished the series. A very VERY vague impression is left of what became of the main characters and I was left feeling slightly jipped. A few other minor problems, Certain romantic relationships in the book made little since as charater's feeling literally sprang out of nowhere SPOILER(Sep,Jen,Marcia, somewhat Nicko). And Finally the main baddy(s) were taken care of in the usual too easy way. I was almost tempted to give this a three to prove a point but the rest of the book is far too good for that, and there's no way I wouldn't recommend this book
