Vital Study of Simms

No longer neglected to the extent he once was, William Gilmore Simms has finally begun to attract some of the scholarly and popular attention that is so overdue for the antebellum South's preeminent author. Matthew Brennan's volume ranks among the best of these recent studies. Not only does Brennan skillfully explain Simms's poetic technique, he also, and perhaps more importantly, places him in his proper historical and literary context. Get this book.
