Great introduction to a growing and important industry!

This text does an excellent job of describing the background, need, and application of linear accelerators in several areas of industry. Of particular interest to me is a chapter that focuses on Varian Medical Systems X-Ray Products division products, including The Varian accelerators , X-Ray detection, and inspection systems. This company (Varian) is one of the original Silicon Valley pioneers, and the Varian products are long held to be among the finest on this planet!
The Author of this particular chapter (Dr. Reed) has done an excellent job describing the current and potential uses of these products. Who would have imagined such a range of products, ranging from the inspection of rocket motors to imaging entire semi trailers full of goods as they cross our borders?
As far as I know, this is a unique book; I have not seen another attempt at covering this growing and important field. Well written and relatively lively text keeps the delivery smooth and enjoyable. Rich in application details, this book goes beyond simple introductory material.
Highly recommended!
